WHEN IS THE WALK?

Saturday, October 18th, 2014.  Registration is at 7:30am and the walk will begin at 9:00am.

Please arrive on time. Those who arrive after 9:00am will not be able to do the walk through the park due to time constraints from California’s Great America. *If arriving from the Peninsula, please note that there is a NASA event and will have certain ramps blocked off in Palo Alto, so leave time for traffic!

The Walk celebration will be taking place in the Picnic Grove this year (located at the back of the Park). Parking for the Walk is in the employee parking lot and the address is 2401 Agnew Road, Santa Clara, CA 95054. There will be signage marking the employee parking lot. Anyone receiving a ticket into the park after the Walk will also receive a parking pass good for free parking in the main lot. There is no entrance into the Park after the Walk from the Picnic area. You will have to move your car to the main lot and enter California’s Great America through the main gate using your free parking pass.

IS THE WALK INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA’S GREAT AMERICA?

The walk route is inside the amusement park and will occur before the park opens to the public. Please note there are no open bathroom facilities along the route.

HOW LONG IS THE WALK ROUTE?

The walk is approximately 1 ½ miles. Walkers are welcome to take another lap if they would like to, and time permits.

IS IT FREE TO GET INTO THE WALK?

JDRF will provide free admission into the amusement park to all walkers who raise $150 or more for the Walk to Cure Diabetes! Remember, each walker has to raise $150 so if there is a family of 4, they will have to raise at least $600 to get into the park for free. If you are a walker who does not raise at least $150, you will still be able to walk but will not receive a free ticket to enter the park after the walk.

PLEASE NOTE that all unconfirmed gifts entered online will NOT count toward your total amount raised unless that money is given at the registration tent on Saturday, October 18th.

Registration amounts will be based on status as of Friday (10/17) afternoon. Please note that all unconfirmed gifts will be rejected on Monday (10/20) for accurate entry of gifts collected day of.

Don’t forget! Checks should be made payable to JDRF.  If you have a large amount of cash or coins to turn in on Walk Day, we ask that you convert it to a personal check.

HOW DO I GET MY TICKET?

JDRF will provide the tickets at the registration tent on the day of the walk. If walkers have not raised at least $150, they can give money at registration to help them reach their goal. JDRF will have credit card machines available before and after the walk for your convenience.

WHAT DO I DO IF I DON’T WANT TO GO INTO THE PARK OR I HAVE MORE TICKETS THAN I CAN USE?

If you raise $150 but are not planning to use your ticket to California’s Great America, or if you are eligible for more tickets than you need for your team members, we ask that you return your ticket to JDRF, since JDRF pays for all tickets given out at registration. You can put your ticket(s) into the box at the registration tent before or after the walk.

WHAT IF I WANT TO USE THE TICKET ANOTHER DAY, IS THAT POSSIBLE?

Admission to the park is only valid on Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 10:00am – 5:30pm only.

WILL THERE BE FOOD?

JDRF will provide a light breakfast in the morning of bagels and fresh fruit from Draeger’s Markets and coffee from Peet’s Coffee & Tea. Lunch will be served after the walk, which will include sandwiches and fresh fruit from Draeger’s Markets and water from Foods Co. There will also be vegetarian and gluten free options for those who need them.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

Sorry, only service dogs are allowed in the park.

JDRF NYC Walk 2012WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL BE AT THE WALK THIS YEAR?

There will be balloon twisters, the Peanuts characters, meter decorating, Sharkie, the Shark Slap Shot Game, pumpkin decorating, FREE team photos by the start line and much more at our Kid’s Corner!

There will also be a number of vendors with products you may be interested in at our Community and Corporate Corner with local resources.

We will have our JDRF Connect and Advocacy tables where you can learn about Children’s Congress, and receive information to help encourage our congressional representatives to support legislation to create better treatments + technology to manage life with T1D.

Make sure to stop by our Type None Movie tent to see the progress JDRF is making towards a cure!

WHAT IS THE COST OF PARKING?

Parking is free in the employee lot which is where the entrance to the Walk celebration is located. You will receive a free parking pass for the main lot with tickets you earn into California’s Great America.

IS IT TOO LATE TO REGISTER FOR THIS YEAR’S WALK? 

No, just visit walk.jdrf.org  to register online and begin raising funds.  It’s easy!

WHAT IF I RAISE MORE THAN $150? 

All funds raised for the Walk to Cure Diabetes will be devoted to diabetes research. The 2014 incentive prizes are cool and useful rewards for increasing fundraising.  The more one raises, the more prize options become available!
