Volunteer Spotlight on Cammie Allen

in

When Cammie Allen’s nephew Ethan was diagnosed with T1D at the age of five in 2008, she wanted to do all she could to help him and his family who live in Truckee, CA. She jumped right in by fundraising and participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes in Reno every year since. She wanted to do more so she contacted the Greater Bay Area Chapter for volunteer opportunities close to her own home in San Francisco.Cammie Allen

As a marketing professional, Cammie has much to offer. Over the last few years, she has helped with writing auction descriptions for and helping out with registration at signature events, and is currently serving as Marketing Chair for the 2014 San Francisco JDRF One Walk. But she does not shy away from any task. “No matter how big or small the projects are, I know its really helping fundraising efforts,” she says. “It feels so productive to walk out of room of 3,000 stamped and addressed envelopes.” She is very excited about her new role in helping to raise awareness and driving fundraising efforts for the JDRF One Walk. “I’m hoping to tap into professional contacts I’ve made, as well as help create and execute the overall communication and marketing activities. I’ve pretty much dabbled in anything marketing related, so I think it will be a good fit.”

Cammie is determined to continue to do all she can to help make a difference in the lives of millions. “A cure would mean that Ethan, my sister, her family, and everyone else with T1D can go to bed and wake up not worrying, whether it’s worry about supplies cost, medical insurance, personal health scares, or counting carbs. It would mean that birthday cake, champagne, pizza, after-skiing hot chocolate, field trips, slumber parties…all could be enjoyed without a blood check, carb count, and insulin,” she says. “It would mean a lot more smiles.”
